Utility Billing Changes for 2025
Village Manager Denis Aslinger announced changes approved by the Board of Public Affairs. Red tags will no longer be placed on properties for delinquent water bills (notice will come by mail or email instead), and there is no longer a fee for ACH automatic payments starting in January. Residents are encouraged to provide their email and cell number so the Village can quickly contact them about leaks, bills, and service issues.
Public Energy Aggregation Meeting
A public meeting was held on January 28, 2025 at 7:00 pm in the Fieldhouse Community Room. Bob Snavley led an open discussion on the Miami County Aggregation program for natural gas and electric.
Snow Parking and Snow Routes
Residents are reminded to keep cars off the street when 2 inches or more of snow is expected so plows can clear roads. Designated snow routes are no-parking zones during winter weather to aid plowing and school buses.
2024 Village Accomplishments
Highlights included joining the Miami County Aggregate program, purchasing a 2024 backhoe (replacing the 1972 model), a new metal roof on the Walnut Street garage, sensor and monitoring well systems, sealcoated parking lots, emergency lights on the Monument generator, hiring a Village Manager, organizing a 501c3 Events Committee, a new HVAC for the Library, planted flowerbeds by the Astrobuds garden club, a new 2024 tool truck, and four paved alleyways. Donations included $10,000 to the Fire Department, $10,000 to ball field development, and $5,000 to fireworks.
Hometown Hero Banner Program
The Village is honoring past and present service members by offering 24×48 inch double-sided pole banners. Banners cost $150 and will be displayed for approximately three years (2025-2027). Applications and photos are due by March 1, 2025. Contact Judy Barga at 937-620-3029 for details.
Community Cats and TNR Program
Council is considering a Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program under Ordinance 1013, which prohibits pets from running at large (including cats). Providing food or shelter to outdoor cats is considered “harboring.” The topic was scheduled for further discussion at the next Council meeting.
Events Committee
Recent events included the Holiday Tree Lighting with Santa on a Firetruck, the Virginia Kinney cookie contest, and the Holiday Property Decorating Contest (88 ballots cast for 13 properties). Bingo and Bunco are scheduled throughout winter. The Light Up the Night Festival is set for June 28, 2025.
