Tree City USA Arbor Day Celebration
Mike Waller and the Tree Commission are organizing the annual Arbor Day Celebration at Newton Elementary on April 25. Students will help plant a tree and learn about its growth throughout their school years.
Easter Egg Hunts
The Pleasant Hill VFW 6557 on 7578 Fenner Road will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt for children 10 and under on April 19 at 1:30 pm. The library will also hold an egg hunt (date to be announced).
Community Garage Sale
The Village-wide Garage Sale runs Saturday, April 26 from 9 am to 5 pm. The Exchange and Marathon will be open for food and drinks, and a Salvation Army truck will be at the Church of the Brethren for donations.
Landlord Tax Reporting
Per Tax Ordinance 1095v3, landlords must submit basic information about Village tenants by January 31 each year. Forms were mailed; landlords missing one should contact Denis Aslinger at 937-676-3321. There is a penalty for noncompliance.
Sidewalk Repair Program
The Village is launching a sidewalk repair program for safety, accessibility, stormwater management, and property values. Identified sidewalks will receive notice with cost. Property owners may use their own contractor to specifications. Invoices will be sent for Village-completed work, with unpaid amounts assessed to property taxes in the fall.
Cemetery Clean Up
Cemetery decorations interfering with grounds keeping will be removed after March 18 and throughout the mowing season (April to October). Residents should retrieve items from gravesites in mowing areas.
Sewage Bill Increase
The base sewage bill will increase by $2.00 starting with the 3rd bill of the year to balance income and expense, per newly passed Ordinance 1160.
Income Tax (RITA)
The Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA) helps the Village collect income tax. Residents should expect statements from RITA. Filing questions can go to the Village office at 937-676-3321 or RITA at 800-860-7482.
Property Maintenance Reminders
Common ordinance violations from last summer include trees/shrubs/grass (1073), exterior property maintenance (1094), junk motor vehicles (1107), animal nuisance (1013), trailer parking (1048), and swimming pool permits (1083). County grants are available for home repair for income-qualified residents.
Miami County Energy Aggregate
Residents will receive a letter in May or June proposing rates for natural gas and electric through the Miami County Aggregate. Residents are automatically enrolled and can opt out. Bob Snavely (Palmer Energy, 419-491-1004, bsnavely@palmerenergy.com) is the energy consultant for questions.
