Quick answer: This is the Village's main pet and animal rule. It covers noise, leashes, vaccinations, how many animals you can keep, and which animals aren't allowed in town. It replaced several older animal ordinances.
What you need to know
- Noise: Your animal can’t repeatedly disturb neighbors with habitual howling, barking, or yelping. Pets kept outdoors need protection from the weather.
- Leash: Off your own property, pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Don’t let animals run loose on streets or onto other people’s property.
- Feeding: Feed pets indoors so you don’t attract wildlife. Animals can’t be abandoned, starved, or mistreated.
- What’s not allowed: No pigs, horses, cows, goats, or poultry (except permitted egg-laying hens, see Ordinance 1144). No more than three dogs or cats over 3 months old.
- Sanitation: You can’t keep animals in a way that creates foul odors or unsanitary conditions.
- Rabies vaccine: Pets must have a current rabies vaccine from a licensed vet (within the last 6 months when required) and wear a tag on the collar.
