Private Swimming Pool Rules

Ord. 1083 Active
Quick answer: This sets the safety rules for private swimming pools in the Village. It covers in-ground, above-ground, and portable pools, plus hot tubs and spas. The main focus is fencing so children can't get into a pool unsupervised.

What you need to know

  • What’s covered: In-ground, on-ground, above-ground, and portable pools, plus lap pools, hot tubs, and spas.
  • Fence required: The pool must be walled or fenced to keep children from getting in from the street or nearby property. The fence must be at least 5 feet tall, kept in good condition, with a gate and a lock.
  • Setback: The pool (and any walks, paved areas, or accessory structures next to it) must be at least 10 feet from any property line.
  • Use: Pools are an accessory use, intended for the people living on the property.
  • Small portable pools: Very small portable pools (under 12 feet across, or holding water less than 18 inches deep) are treated differently.

If you don’t comply

  • Violating any part of this ordinance is a minor misdemeanor, and each day the violation continues counts as a separate offense.
