Golf Cart Rules in Pleasant Hill

Ord. 1153 Effective Jun 25, 2024 Active
Quick answer: Golf carts are legal to drive on most Pleasant Hill streets, but you have to register one before you can drive it on public roads. You get the cart inspected by the Miami County Sheriff, buy a $20 permit from the Village, then title and tag it like a regular vehicle. The driver must be at least 16 with a valid driver's license, and the cart needs the right safety equipment.

What you need to know

  • Driver: Must be 16 or older with a valid driver’s license.
  • Inspection first: The Miami County Sheriff has to inspect it. Call 937-440-9911 to set up an inspection at your home.
  • Then register: Get a $20 one-time permit from the Village, take the inspection form to the title office for a title, then get Ohio tags from the BMV and attach the plate.
  • Insurance: You need at least state minimum liability insurance and must show proof when asked.
  • Required equipment: Two headlights, a red taillight with reflectors, turn signals, two brake lights, a rearview mirror, a horn (heard from 200 feet), a windshield of safety glass, a rear license plate light, and a seat belt for every rider.
  • Child seats: Required for any rider under age 4 or under 40 pounds.
  • Where you can drive: Roads with a speed limit of 25 mph or less. You may cross roads up to 35 mph. Not allowed on state routes, 55 mph roads, or sidewalks.
  • Riding rules: Everyone stays seated and belted while moving. No standing.
  • Penalty: First offense in a year is a minor misdemeanor. Second is a 4th-degree misdemeanor. Three or more is a 3rd-degree misdemeanor.
