May 21 thru May 23rd 2008, Water Service Interruptions

Public Notice:
Pleasant Hill Ohio - From Wednesday May 21st through Friday May 23rd residents may experience periods of water outages during the hours of 8AM-5PM due to water main construction. When water system pressure is restored citizens are instructed to boil water for a minimum of 3-5 minute prior to use for drinking, cooking and washing dishes. The "Boil Water Advisory" will remain in effect until further notice. Because of low pressure below 20 psi, contamination of the distribution system is possible.

We apologize for the inconvenience

All Residents:
The water line updates went very well and water service was restored by 4:00pm this afternoon. Please note that with the continued construction on Monument street additional outages are possible in the future. We will try to give as much warning as possible to residents but we are at the mercy of the contractors work schedules.

Notice of Low Water Pressure

Village residents experienced a period of low water pressure Tuesday April 1 from approximately 4PM to 10PM.

A construction crew drilled through a water main and cause a major disruption. The first steps our Village crew took were to immediately assess the situation, call in a construction crew to repair the break, contact the media, EPA and fire dept., then start shutting the water down to the area to help alleviate massive drainage of the water tower. Notices were presented on the 6PM and 11PM television news and posted in 10 locations around town.

The notifications report a "Boil Water Situation" where for the 2 days following the incident, residents are advised to boil water used for drinking. This advisory is implemented any time the system pressure drops below a certain limit. At that point it is technically possible for ground water to enter the system in any area where the system may have a small leak. The advisory should last through Thursday April 3.

Pleasant Hill Weather Emergency Siren

The Pleasant Hill/Newton Township Joint Fire District has reactivated the old fire siren that used to be mounted on the water tower over the fire daprtment. It has been mounted on the grain elevator.

It will no longer be used to alert our volunteer firemen of a fire. Instead it will be used only for weather emergencies such as a tornado. When fully operational, the siren will sound for a solid 30 second blast. Residents should then seek cover until a second blast signals the all clear.

If you have heard the siren recently, don't worry. It is still in the testing phase and is not quite ready for service. The JFD expects to have the siren fully functional in time for this year's tornado season. Check back for more information and watch local publications for the announcement that it is online and ready to serve the community.

Pleasant Hill Press Release: September 17, 2007

The Village of Pleasant Hill recently received several large grants to replace W. Monument (718) and to make other village improvements.

One of the projects being considered is to improve the appearance of the northwest corner of SR 718 and SR 48. The Village Council purchased the building located 2 North Main St and is considering three options for the corner. These ideas were submitted in the form of design concepts by citizens of the community; Dr. Marcus Miller, Richard and Norma Holsinger, and Charles and Donna Hormell. All three of these ideas are in display in the windows of the 2 North Main St. building.

  1. Restore the building to look as it did at the turn of the 20th century and convert it into village offices and a council meeting room.
  2. Raze the building and move the Civil War Monument from the center of the 718 / 48 intersection to atop a small hill in the place where the building now stands. The corner would not only honor the soldiers of the civil war, but would be expanded to honor the local men and women who fought in all wars.
  3. Convert the whole corner into a parking lot with sidewalks and landscaping around the perimeter.

Both options 1 and 2 would add additional parking for the library to the north and potentially the west side of the lot. The additional parking is a requirement of the CDBG Neighborhood Revitalization Set-Aside Grant.

The Village Council is currently obtaining estimates for each of these three options. We would appreciate if the citizens of our community would look at the displays and provide feedback on them. The council would also welcome any additional ideas. The final decision is expected in 6-12 months.
